The buzz is that E3 as the gaming industry has come to know it will cease to be what it has been since the mid 1990's. The hugely popular Gaming Expo has lost its interest from big name gaming corporations that claim the cost isn't worth the benefit. :(
Next Generation writes:
Publishers believe the multi-million dollar budgets would be better spent on more company-focused events that bring attention to their own product lines rather than the industry as a whole.
Well placed sources say the news that larger exhibitors were pulling out had prompted urgent meetings among publishing executives. They decided that, without the support of the larger software publishers and hardware manufacturers, there would be no point in continuing.
E3 is speculated to not be cancelled entirely, but have a much smaller event next May with fewer of the big names. It seems like companies such as Blizzard can manage on its own. *cough cough Blizzcon cough cough* I dread the official announcement (coming this Monday, perhaps).
